WestRock is seeking a highly talented Health, and Safety (H&S) Leader that will have responsibility and oversight for health and safety in a complex global function located in one of the above regions. This position will report to the EMEA Health and Safety Director for WestRock’s Consumer Packaging business segment.The Regional H&S Leader provides leadership, coaching, and technical expertise plus strategic guidance and operational support to all assigned sites. The individual must be competent in leading high-performing safety teams as well as elevating the performance and skills of high-need sites. We are seeking a thoughtful leader who will help to develop WestRock’s approach to 100% SAFE and provide effective support as a key business partner for the Consumer business segment. The Regional H&S Leader will be responsible for their regions locations and may also have the opportunity to lead wider European business initiatives.

 

How will you impact Westrock?

·        Coaching and influencing leadership and team members to affect change in H&S.

·        Guiding site-based H&S professionals to drive progress towards achieving objectives and targets across the business.

·        Developing sustainable management systems for H&S to effectively drive engagement, identify, and reduce risk and provide a safe and healthy work environment.

·        Assisting WestRock Consumer operations with implementing WestRock’s Safety Management System, developing, and implementing effective injury prevention programs and ensuring compliance with company policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.

·        Assist the WestRock legal team in matters affecting the sites within the region.

·        Developing and implementing strategic performance improvement plans across the region.

·        Ensuring strategy deployment from the enterprise level to the business and site levels is consistently completed annually and aligns with enterprise-wide targets and objectives.

·        Coaching local leaders on risk analysis, event learning/investigation procedures, root cause analysis, creating and executing corrective counter measures.

·        Participating in the Consumer and Corporate H&S team/council, cascading communications, and process controls to business and local leadership.

·        Developing and implementing regulatory strategies, including the development, communication, implementation, and monitoring of WestRock’s health and safety program to ensure regulatory compliance.

·        Implementing industry standard metrics systems at all sites including Incident Rate, Severity Rate, proactive metric tracking including management system assessments, analyzing root cause, and driving corrective actions in partnership with operations leadership.

·        Routinely visit facilities to provide safety compliance assistance as well as coaching and assessment of compliance with company policies and applicable H&S regulations.

·        Assist the EMEA Health and Safety Director during merger, divestiture and acquisition activity and acquisition integration activities.

·        Lead and support capital safety reviews for new product and process development, facility modification, product manufacturing modifications and new equipment/machinery installations.

·        Leads responses to third party requests for information.

 

What do you need to be successful?

·        Bachelor of Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Engineering, or relevant field

·        5+ years' experience leading H&S

·        Extensive knowledge and skills implementing or transforming best practices

·        Prior experience in the development/implementation of a Safety Management System

·        Interpersonal skills to create a safety culture and be a safety advocate throughout the company

·        High degree of proficiency in data and statistical analysis

·        Proven verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization

·        Able to attend virtual meetings

·        Excellent knowledge of Polish and English

·        Knowledgeable in the technical fundamentals of safety management and risk reduction techniques, including machine guarding, ergonomics, and occupational health and wellness

·        General knowledge and understanding of safety regulations affecting the region

·        Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills

·        Technical knowledge of manufacturing facilities

·        Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide and influence others.

·        Preferred knowledge and experience with Human and Organization Performance (HOP) as it relates to culture

·        Experience working with H&S software systems as an aligned approach to safety and environmental data management

·        Experience in the paper and packaging industry is a benefit, but not required

·        Ability to travel 30% to 60% of the time
