Trade Compliance Manager

LOCATIONS:

The Opportunity:  WestRock is seeking a highly self-motivated and strongly communicative individual to lead the organisation’s Trade Compliance function to ensure company adherence with international trade compliance laws and regulations, focusing primarily on UK / EU trade. This role will work closely across the European platform, with Logistics, Finance, Procurement, and local plant operations, to enable business success and to ensure that all import and export transactions are in conformance with the laws and regulations of the countries involved.
Reporting to the European Logistics Manager, the Trade Compliance Manager will have a great deal of autonomy within their role will have the opportunity to build on the roles current functionality and to really make this role their own.
 They will be responsible to advise and provide expertise and guidance relating to trade compliance activities, working with cross-functional teams in both Europe and the US.

How You Will Impact WestRock

  • To continue to develop and build on existing operational trade compliance processes and standards and to proactively engage with all business to truly embedded the function into the business operations.
  • Ensure the company’s compliance with import and export regulations as they relate to Europe imports / exports, HTS classifications and denied party screening guidance.
  • Work closely with our appointed Customs Agents to maintain accurate records and documentation keeping and monitor service performance through established KPI’s.
  • Liaise directly with our third-party carriers on custom related matters and problem resolution.
  • To actively engage with our US Trade Compliance Team on global processes and standardizations.
  • Provide close support and guidance at a local despatch level to ensure documentation completeness and accuracy.
  • To be the point of escalation for trade compliance complaints, issues, and advice.
  • Maintain and present regular management information to track / monitor volumes, SOP adherence and data accuracy.
  • Aid and support in response to both internal and external audits.
  • Provide tailored and periodic cross departmental customs awareness training and guidance.
  • To keep up to date with changes to import / export control laws and regulations and provides analysis regarding applicability and impact to company products, existing company export policies and procedures.
  • To raise the profile of the Compliance function across the business by creating close working relationships cross-functionally and establishing yourself as the key Trade Compliance subject matter expert for WestRock in Europe.
  • Provide advice and guidance on HTS classifications, rules of origin, IPR / OPR, FTA’s.
  • Provide act as the primary cover for the European Logistics Manager when needed.

Experience and Skills required:

  • 5 years’ experience within Trade Compliance and Customs, ideally within in a manufacturing environment.
  • A strong knowledge of logistics and supply chains.
  • Considerable experience of MS Office tools.
  • Knowledge of Oracle GTM and SAP / Radius desirable.
  • You should be confident working on you own and running projects and have excellent communication and partnering skills.
